Q. Why do I need a website?

Good question, to which there is no single answer. Lifestyles are changing, especially among the younger generation. Going on-line to source goods, services and information has become second nature to a large proportion of the population. Without a presence on the internet you could be missing out on the potential the internet has to offer, 12.8 million households online in the UK (and 350million worldwide).
Just being there can expand your business coverage beyond your local area, provide the platform on which to build additional and new services such as mail-order, offer hard to find or specialist products and services and provide your new and existing customer's access to information/promotions/special offers.

Q. How much will it cost me?
Q. How long does it take before I have a working website?
Q. How much work is involved from my side?
Q. I am not technically minded, will you manage my website for me?
Q. I am technically minded, can I manage my own website?
Q. What other services does a web site give me?
Q What additional functionality dose a web site offer other than advertise my presence?
i-did-this will, if you require completely shield you from the technicalities of the internet. All we ask is that you provide us the content  (text and pictures) and approve the work at each stage.

Q What do you recommend as the best approach to getting started?
A few simple rules that we have found works best if a rapid development, smooth deployment and successful launch is the main criteria.

  • Focus on the website content that your customers will want to view.
  • Keep page design simple and elegant. 'Explosions in paint factory' effect can be fun to build but hard on the eyes of the visitor.
  • Don't try to do everything all at once. Start small with just a single page and add to your website as content becomes available.
  • Try to resist wizzy features, flying graphics, sounds and adverts that pop up. These just annoy visitors and frustrate everyone with longer page load times.
  • The look and feel of your website, logos, and colour schemes, should whenever possible, be based on the existing material that you use every day in your business. Whether your customers visit your premises or your website there should be a common theme to both.
  • Where no marketing material exists for your business or you feel it is time to update it, you can ask for our help in creating a new look for your business either from a standard set of templates, gaining inspiration from a website on the internet with the style you would like us to follow or just send your ideas to us and we will be pleased to discuss them further.

Most people have a horror story or two about web design costs. It may surprise you that a single page website from i-did-this that describes you, your business, what you do and how to find or contact you will cost far less than running the equivalent advert in the local paper and when you consider that a website is there working for you 24 hours a day 365 days of the year, providing a truly global presence and the content is only limited by your imagination, it is truly a bargain.

A Starter Page can be designed and implemented in just a few days. The average website, made up from three to five pages a handful of features and a few download links will take approximately 5 working days from the time we receive your content. Allocate at least six weeks for a full eCommerce site with shopping trolley and on-line credit card payment facility, all this is excluding any time taken approving each stage of the work.

For a Starter Page surprisingly little. Most of the content required is just standard contact details, a few pictures and brief descriptions about you and your business. Most of this probably already exists in the form of existing adverts, brochures, catalogues, etc. Obviously your workload grows the more comprehensive a site becomes.
i-did-this will be pleased to construct your website for you and send you the files for you to publish. Contact us for details.

In addition to your website you will have your Domain Name or URL (Unique Resource Locator) registered for your exclusive use. An example would be:
www.yourbusinessname.co.uk.
This provides you with the internet address on which visitors can access your website, it also provides a professional email address that they can use when communicating with you. To follow-on from the above example:
john.smih@yourbusinessname.co.uk.
Emails to your new address will be automatically forwarded to your existing email address if you have one. If not we can provide one for you.

The list of web functions is almost endless but here are just a few simple ones that may be of interest to you; interactive maps with route plans on how to find you, on-page email enquiries to your email address, facility for visitors to download brochures/catalogues/price lists, Pop-up enlargements of thumbnail pictures.
